eSafety at our school
eSafety, or electronic safety, is an issue which affects us all . Keeping our children safe, whether it be in the real world or the online, digital world will always remain a priority. Children at our school use the Internet on a regular basis as part of their learning. Technology enhances learning, and we aim to ensure pupils use it constructively, by encouraging responsible online behaviour. In school, we use a filtering system to prevent children accessing inappropriate sites. eSafety is also part of our curriculum teaching and we have Digital Leaders who are consistently reinforcing and championing eSafety amongst their peers in classrooms. We now also have an eSafety Committee, ensuring that Governors, parents and all stakeholders in the school community have an overview of how eSafety is being delivered and managed within school.
As a school we have undertaken a self review of our eSafety using the SWGfL (South West Grid for Learning) 360 Degree Safe tool at
www.360safe.org.uk. This will continue to impact on our areas for development to ensure that all of our children are well informed and educated to work online in a digital world. We have also bought into a comprehensive suite of resources from the SWGfL to support our school community called Boost+. We feel the importance of working with parents to keep our children safe both in and out of school is extremely important and at home children sometimes can be given unsupervised access to the Internet. This, potentially, allows them to access all kinds of society (both good and bad) and bring them virtually into their homes.
