Curriculum

At Westwood with Iford Primary School, children enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum that is designed to follow the EYFS framework and the National Curriculum through learning themes that are relevant to children's interests in fun and engaging way that enables them to learn the necessary knowledge and skills in order to be successful.

The children learning is enhanced through a range of visits and visitors which bring their learning alive.  In the last year the children have visited Longleat, the Bath Literature festival, and have met Steven Butler the author of the No Where Hotel series of books.  Year 5 & 6 have been to Simonsbath and Year 4 to Charterhouse on a residential visit.

When you visit our classes you will find the children engaged in learning that challenges their thinking whilst developing their confidence and independence.  During the teacher's PPA time the curriculum is enhanced with the children engaging in Forest Schools and in Key Stage 2 learning to swim.  Our children have the opportunity to participate in a choir and are going to 'Young Voices' for the first time in 2023.  Our Year 5 & 6 children have performed at the Wiltshire Music Centre with the Orchestra for the Age of Enlightenment.  Year 3 learn to play the violin and they can continue with lessons should they wish to as they move through Key Stage 2.  We have a music teacher who comes into school weekly when the children can learn the Piano or Recorder.

For more detail on what each individual class (or year group) is studying, please take a look at the relevant class page. If you require further information about our curriculum please contact your child’s class teacher or if you are a visitor to the site please contact the Office.
